It’s so awesome you’ve documented this. As Owen Jones says, ‘Keep receipts’ everyone. Karyn Elizabeth has done some great work on 1News and RNZ.

They, Stuff and NZH have without a doubt manufactured consent for genocide.

This is a great speech by Owen Jones about the coming ‘reckoning’:

Oh thank you Rach appreciate this. I think every journalist is going to have to think about what they did at this time - and they’ll have to explain it to their children at the very least.

Emily - thank you for your blunt and accurate response to Damien Grant’s appalling column. It is such irresponsible ‘journalistic’ oversight by Stuff that I will follow up on. Your column has prompted me to subscribe. Thank you for your persistent voice for truth, justice and Gazans (amongst other things), and on other matters, your wit, and humour.

Thank you for subscribing I really appreciate it. I spent a lot of today crying and wondering if I should post this because there will be an inevitable blowback but having the support of subscribers makes a huge difference.

Don't worry about the blowback, if any. To not publish the facts as you have would make you complicit. You are a voice among many. Keep that up. We have your back. 🤗

Thank you for having my back ❤️ I will always speak up - as you say, to not speak up is wrong. It’s unthinkable. I also know my kids are watching me too and I need them to know that a lot of people tried. I need them to see that this is how we live our lives - always in service to our communities, standing against racism and hatred, bigotry and oppression, and protecting and caring for each other. Manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga - we have to model that for our tamariki.

Definitely. Their role is so powerful and they have manufactured consent in the nz population. It makes me sick. Thanks for calling this out. We won't forget.

I'm really disappointed by Stuff and RNZ's coverage of Occupied Palestine. There is often lots of Hamas blame, humanising of Israelis and a passive voice re Israel's genocidal actions.

Christ. That last statement is en pointe.

Fuck the world for not standing up for what’s right.

That wee shaking boy makes me cry so much.

Devastated reading this as I prepare dinner in our safe and warm home. And I just feel so guilty and complicit myself. What can we do Emily? I need to turn this rage into something to help so it doesnt flatten me. What fuck Stuff?

You can email keith.lynch@stuff.co.nz or write a press council complaint in breech of the accuracy principle but you have to complain first to the publication. Or we have a mutual aid fund that is supporting about 15 families in Gaza you could give $ too. Even $2 helps - 38-9004-0845765-05

It's beyond heart wrenching watching the news clips about Gaza and the atrocities being committed there. I thought I was becoming hardened to the scenes of bloodshed & despair but seeing another injured child being rushed to hospital or a mother holding a shrouded body in her arms wailing at her loss and the tears well up. Why can't we, as in the Western world, bring sanctions on Israel as we did to Russia previously?!

I've previously paid a sub to Stuff but cancelled it some time ago...shit journalism is alive & well in NZ.

My message to Stuff

New Zealanders need to know the truth about Israel and Palestine. Intelligent readers need intelligent factual discourse. I can no longer ignore the bias when genocide is being carried out on Palestinians. How can you? I am stopping my subscription. I expect good journalism.

The point in The Lancet article shared here about the number of ongoing, 'indirect' deaths that will continue to accumulate, too, is horrific and totally sobering. The mind reels. It's a link to send to W. Peters, which might be like throwing a flower into a bonfire, but here goes.

Thank you for this! Also it’s so ridiculous that Stuff has started publishing photos of Israeli soldiers at this point.

Thanks Emily. So well documented. I unsubscribed to Stuff months ago because of this. Also, I think Israel has gone beyond genocide: I believe the correct term is extermination.

Thank you Emily for writing what had needed to be said. The Damien Grant's and Keith Lynch's of this world should not be able to hide from the reckoning that should await them. Keep shining a light on these despicable beings.

Thank you for posting this Emily. After a long day I almost skipped reading before bed but I didn’t and I’m glad I didn’t. We all need to hear this and be reminded to pay attention and be more critical of who and what we read.
