😭 really needed this reminder. “It’s a better way to live your life” - yes yes yes. I have always thought of myself as political but I’ve never acted until Gaza “radicalised” me. I’ve watched you and your activism for years Emily and always admired you and always thought “oh no I could never”… Until I did and now, it’s absolutely a better way to live ❤️‍🩹

Thanks for this e hoa - that last poem is something I hold closely and tightly, especially lately. I love the generosity and grace you hold when someone joins the table - it's a moment I really treasure, and a moment of joy, because everyone brings something new!

Thanks so much Emily. I don't often comment here, but I find your words the most hopeful thing right now. It means a lot to me that you put them out for us to read them. I don't underestimate the bravery and energy it takes. Thank you, I really, really, appreciate it.

Oh I really needed to read this just now. Just came home from the supermarket where I'd turned into an aisle and startled an elderly man who was trying to hide a single pouch of cat food in his threadbare jumper. The image has just been spiralling in my head for hours.

I bought an extra box hoping to catch him at the checkout but he was gone. I have been more self/family focussed lately but this going to radicalise my kindness. Radical Kindness?

I think I must have some pollen in my eyes at this image.

I really needed this perspective, I've been struggling with being so angry about current events all the time, so thankyou.

First time commenter here! 😂 Just subscribed too. Thank you for this piece. It’s been the most important thing I have read recently. You have been instrumental in helping me understand the why and even a bit of the how. Thank you. With love.

That is so right! I got radicalised 60 years ago (Vietnam war) and have never stopped speaking up for what is right. It doesn't make you popular, but you meet the best people. My daughter is going through a lot right now because she is standing up against people who probably think the current government is fine. We have to be part of the change, because the alternative is unthinkable. They thought the Quakers wanted to kill the economy when they opposed slavery. Took a while, but history vindicated the Quakers not the business people. Kia kaha.

A fine call to join in action.

Yes to all of this....it really is a good way to live. And I feel sometimes the only way to keep going and keep hoping is through action.

The wheel's dark spokes can catch us up and revolve us closer to the centre (not my thought, credit goes to Rilke)

But it may help when helplessness is what we feel - 🕯️

Whether people like it or not, politics is interwoven into everything. I think the main difference lies in whether people are active about supporting the politics they believe in.
