Oh my goodness. Emily, this is an utterly beautiful. My years at Playcentre were like this in a way. Learning. Learning from every single child who would allow me in their space. I just watch, listened, and soaked it in. My cats haven’t really enjoyed the same level of closeness with my kids that I have with them. Till Edith. Edith the Terrible . Not a Bear, not even close. But she’s a force. She’s about the size of a hamster, with the energy of an insane lion. She’s the best, and she’s my girls. My girl who is going through the unbearable pain of transitioning, during a time when there are so many enemies. I think I’ll get Edith a harness. Watch out haters!!! Xxxxxx

I love this. You've so perfectly captured what it is to have a special relationship with an animal and for you to both understand each other so well.

Nice work. I don't like cats as much as I like dogs, but I really believe that cats know when they are liked and not liked (like horses sense if you are frightened of them). Bruce obviously knows. But Bear is definitely why I don't like cats. They can be horrid too! P

Awww I loved reading this story. Our cat has been our baby’s protector from the day we brought her home. If she was crying the cat would come running. If she was sick or teething the cat would sit by her, touching her and purring. She’s a tiny wee thing with a piece missing out of her ear and now teeth missing too, giving her a rather unbecoming scowl. Our furniture is all scratched up and we got a dog that is the same colour so we wouldn’t be able to blame one or the other for the fur. The fur is never ending and everywhere. How does it float up to even the mantelpiece? Yet here I sit in front of the fire, sharing the dog bed and watching my daughter give her cat pats on her lap.

I love this fur equity. Pets are so important for children -

the only times I have seen my adult sons cry are on the deaths of their grandmother and Ginger. You can get dog fur spun and knitted too!
