I was so shocked and sad to read this news this morning. I am a dedicated fan of the guilty feminist podcast which Cal was a frequent guest on, and she was one of my very favourites. She never brought anything less than irreverent, unbridled joy to the show, even when dealing with heavy topics. What a huge loss. Sending aroha.
My heart feels heavy. So often we hear of death as being akin to someone's light going out, but Cal's light is just too bright to be extinguished. She was joy personified. Oh she will be so missed.
"It was as if the ocean was saying - I'll take some of your grief but you have to hold the rest.
Hold this weight and know how lucky you are to have it."
Oh Emily, this is so beautiful. What a profound shock to have someone larger than life suddenly be gone. But what she did with that life. My thoughts are with her friends, whanau and all who were lucky enough to know her. Her legacy will live on.
Because you are such a bright shining light, you attract bright shining lights to you. And too many of these bright lights are leaving us far too early. I hold you in your grief for losing Cal, and aroha to all who knew her personally and her whānau. Also aroha to you Emily, as I know this grief for Cal will sit with alongside the other griefs you have endured and the people taken too soon. I hope you can navigate this time with love and friendship and softness. Stef x
This "Cal made choices every moment of every day to make the lives of others a little brighter. She chose joy. She chose laughter. She chose love. And she chose life." May we all adopt a little bit of Cal every day in our own life xxxx
A beautiful tribute for a gorgeous human. I used to watch her do Scared Scriptless late on a Friday night here in Christchurch when I was a teenager. Funny, talented, gorgeous, a bright star. Rest in power, lovely one. <3
I was never lucky enough to meet her but her lockdown videos broke through the fear and confusion with colour and joy. She was a delight to watch and will be so missed.

And just like the ebb and flow of the tides, your memories and grief will come and go, e hoa. Sending love to you and all that knew Cal 💜
