Thank you for your mahi on this - I happily sent the email to the teachers council, but also to my sons college principal in support as they are sending a busload of students to the Hikoi and this is their explanation:

'The purpose of the trip is to help our students engage in current issues affecting our country, fostering students' critical thinking, and empowering our students to feel connected and engaged with Aotearoa's history and future'

I couldn't be more proud!

How can the little tick be in parliament for so long and not have the first clue how it works? Honestly he gives neuro-divergent people a bad name. As for the condom, we can only wish that Mr and Mrs Seymour had been more vigilant all those years ago...

Sounds like David Seymour is scared of teachers. He's been pissing us off since he got into parliament and is now worried it's going to bite him in the arse.

I hope he gets bited hard.

Bravo. Incredible work Emily as always. Also, all this nonsense by him about “war dances” and disruption— but it doesn’t disrupt the start of rugby matches now does it? That brand of appropriation is Govt approved and Boomer endorsed eh . The haka is totally cool then, and when drunk white businessmen do it abroad too of course, that’s just making “war dances” fair now init?

It's about as classic a case of appropriation as you're even likely to see!!

Watcher! I was with you till I encountered the divisive term Boomer. We don’t all endorse Seymour or the present government: many of us are much more discerning than that.

No one suggested you all are that. “Boomer” is somewhat different from someone born into the baby boom demographic, eh. A bit like not all people named Karen act like “Karens” - very few in my experience. No offence intended.

Whenever this government cries political neutrality, I want to scream "you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means" <Princess Bride quote>. What they are actually asking public servants to do is to stop being politically neutral.

Thank you for probably the best explanation of a school board member too. Community volunteer. It’s hard mahi, and each time I’ve been on a board over a change of Government, it’s even harder. This whole mess has been unbelievable, and none more than his ridiculous bill.

Thank you for sharing that. I am sure principals and boards have agonised over any letters sent out to parents (as many parents are quite ridiculous lol)

I love you. Email sent with some of my own flourishes added. Feels good to do something, even if it's tiny.

If I was a parent of school aged children, I would be bloody proud if they chose to be a part of the resistance to this nasty attempt to divide us, Seymour should take his bill and just fuck off.

HEAR HEAR! This has reminded me about an instance of name suppression which will hopefully be expiring soon… (please delete if too on the nose)
