Proud to sign & support this kaupapa... Ashamed the people of Aotearoa elected people who are so backwards when it comes to ALL the things that make us decent human beings that they callously turn back the clock on recent progress in improving human & animal welfare 🤬
Thanks Emily, for bringing this up... I would've loved to ask the vet what the preference is to live export, instead of shipping the processed meat over? I don't understand & think the practice is abhorrent
The cattle on the boats are mainly dairy cows - so are exported for the primary purpose of milking (mainly indoors; as John the petitioner said, they’ll never have grass under their hooves again :-( ).
We still worry about their experience at death (and during their lives) because in the end, they will end up killed for eating as a beef animal would, and they won’t necessarily be stunned prior to killing as is the requirement here in New Zealand.
Hi - I have a question about the alternatives also. Dairy cows every year have a calf, so that they produce milk. Obviously some of those will be male, some will be female, but either way farmers can't keep endlessly increasing their herds with all the new cows born every year. If they are not exported, what is to happen to them instead?
I don't support live export but I am curious about that.
Signed and shared!

Hello - it’s me - the vet :-)

Hope that helps!
Thanks Helen, grateful for your response
Signed. Feel sick at the cruelty we dish out to animals.
