Thanks for the FNC! Lots of interesting articles for me to check out later so I’m looking forward to that. I’m listening to Murder 101, it’s about high school students who research cold cases in an attempt to solve murders of Jane Does in their community. It’s really cool to see their school getting them involved in a topic that interests them and helping them with learning in this way.
I’m also listening to the new NKOTB song Kids on repeat.
Speaking of Swayze, I watched Point Break the other night and it still totally holds up as an excellent movie. Fricken love Keanu, then, now and always.
Thanks for the extra chat - I got to read some links as we are trying to get to Akaroa … they currently have a long term stop & go on the hill but the lights clearly don’t accommodate the one way traffic on a public holiday and we were in the queue for 45 mins with one downhill car every 14 mins… I reckon the tail must have reached back to Little River because it started moving suddenly and it’s turned out the police came, turned the lights sideways and implemented a manual stop and go sign!! Funny!
Nellie's Baby is excellent. Kirsty is such a good researcher and storyteller and the story develops over the 7 part podcast. It took her about 18 months to complete.
Relating to the Trad Wife article, I watched a fascinating TikTok (on insta) by an ex-member of LDS who describes the ‘Fundie Baby Voice’ where women are taught to speak in a soft, on-threatening baby voice. @tialevingswriter. Highly recommend, it’s fascinating
Had to google “fundie baby voice”, have they not watched The Handmaid’s Tale. Obviously not. So brainwashed, but I guess that is what they think of us.
Thank you are all your mahi. This was great and will give me lots of Easter fun. I was so tired and confused from the week I was looking for Friday night chats last night thinking it was Friday 🙄 Nancy was a real treat!
I’m currently going through a Lily Allen renaissance (her auto biography was pretty good actually). Anyhoo, walking the dog and listening to ‘Fuck You’ makes me smile. It’s like the lyrics were written specifically for our coalition leaders!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who wishes movies could be 90 minutes long! Most are ridiculously drawn out these days. Thanks for all the links. Good to have stuff to browse while I'm stuck at home with covid - covid at Easter is becoming a bit of a tradition for our family lol. Hope you have a nice holiday Emily!
I am less than halfway through the links, and you've really outdone yourself, what a fantastic selection. I still have to figure out how to access the tradwife one, it sounds right up my alley.
We are having a quiet weekend, amid kids being alternately best friends and worst enemies 🤦🏼♀️
Road House (89) stands up as a great bad movie, even if the plot is about as deep as an episode of the Dukes of Hazzard - which must be well before your time.
Some outstanding stuff here, as always. Thanks for that, and I hope you and all other readers have a great long weekend.
For me it's been one of those weeks where I'd class my mental health as gloomy. There's often no real reason for it (although maybe the state of the world has contributed on this particular occasion!), and I guess it's just a matter of riding it out.
But something that's given me a little boost is a band I didn't know much about called Amaranthe, who announced they're coming to the Powerstation in August. I decided to investigate, and I'm not sure I was prepared for their unhinged cheesiness, but I'm glad they've come into my life.
We also went to see Skindred last night, who are a really fun band that spans a weird and wonderful range of genres and puts on a superb show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXg_naYQveI
My partner is a huge fan of Skindred, so it was awesome to see her have such a great time!

I've fallen into the trap of Sarah J Maas smut & I can't stop myself 🤣🤣🤣
Also love me some Sideswipe!
Will definitely be watching some Patrick Swayze this weekend, so damn fine 🥵🔥😍

On our way to Wanaka. Already can’t wait for bedtime to read so many of these articles!
Thx for this fun, interesting, weird read Emily. Happy weekend 💞

I'll never forget the glory I felt when something I sent in got published in sideswipe!

I saw a reviewer describe whatever this is as "ABBA on a bloodthirsty rampage", which seems apt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbuEkMYY8uk
