Great ideas. Also if I may, I don't want to take away from the really cool giving ideas suggested, but please consider supporting your small independent retailers? Our businesses are doing it tough. My own wee shop, Made Marion Craft on Cuba St, is a haven of friendly service and gentle Christmas music (only after 1 December - before that, I don't get a say!). We employ four amazing local humans, and support a bunch of community initiatives and local artists. <3
Thanks for the excellent list of ideas! My Dad has received Oxfam goats for too many years; it'll be nice to mix it up :-)
The Fred Hollows Foundation is one of my favourites, and this year they've partnered with Rise Beyond the Reef in Fiji to sell handmade gifts that include a charitable donation as well. Find them here: https://giftofsight.hollows.org.nz/
Another great cause is gifting food and money to Kokiri Marae Pataka Kai in Lower Hutt - they provide food for 30-40 families a day and demand is greater than ever

Thank you!!! Me whole family are getting vaccine donations now 👍🏼
If you have cats, perhaps a cat clown collar from a local maker to support local business and protect birdlife?
If you know someone who loves art or textile crafts (e.g. a knitter/crocheter) you could sponsor a ball of yarn for Lissy and Rudi Cole's Wharenui Harikoa project- https://lissycole.com/buy-a-ball/#:~:text=Buy%2DA%2DBall%20allows%20you,of%2027cm%C2%B2%20within%20the%20wharenui. Supporting two amazing Māori artists on a super-cool (and joyful) piece of work.
What a wonderful collation of ideas Emily, thanks so much. Sharing widely!
Thanks for this - it reminded me to sign up for my local Good Bitches Baking, so I'm looking forward to more baking in my life next year.
