Ok so I'm just watching the final Beckham doco episode and I love it - but I would love to see the whole doco about Victoria because she was on a world tour in the most famous band in the world, pregnant! I want to know everything about her!
Do they have hairdressers etc on this nine-month cruise? You'd probably want to go do that when the water's pretty calm, right? And what do they do with the hair clippings? The important questions.
From what I’ve seen, a lot of stuff like that they do “in port” when they’ve stopped somewhere. There’s a shop on board but it is super expensive so most people wait and do their shopping when they stop.
You need Mario Uno, there's a Wild Card that let's you change the rules.
We took the kids to Wonka, and we all enjoyed it. I'm still perplexed on how Willy Wonka first encounters the Oompa Loompa, and now I need to read the actual Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book...
Further watching, it's new seasons of Reacher, Shetland and Slow Horses.
It is a musical and although the reviewers are ragging on it my family (61,59, and 21) loved it. It looked stunning, the costumes were fabulous, the songs were gorgeous and I thought Timothée Chalamet was seriously pretty (and very charming). Most of the humour comes from an almost entirely English cast - many from Horrible Histories - and the always wonderful Olivia Colman.
I loved it. Tears at the end. Season 3 of Slow Horses - real set of the pants intensity. Just started Reservation Dogs (not Reservoir) co-produced by Taika Waititi. Looks promising.
I’ve just finished my last social event of the year - a friend’s bbq that we shifted to my house because of the weather and I am SO EXCITED that I will not be talking to any humans until next year, just my cats. Perhaps a little faecbook messaging but that’s it. I love my friends and family dearly but for a person who’s used to living alone, four big social events in the space of a week that have to be prepared for and cooked on a swollen ankle is too much. Just television (probably Bob’s Burgers) and purring kitties until I go back to work on Jan 3., please and thank you
Ooh, and Ive been watching the Great Pottery Throwdown on Three. Its SO lovely 😍 Amazing creative people, in a competition but being nice to each other, making stunning things and the lovely judge man cries from joy or empathy at least once each episode. I felt a better person for watching it. And the episode where the potters make sculptures representing themselves and their journeys? Outstanding.
Re the cruise: so towards the end, do they have lots of babies being born?
Still playing puzzle games on the Switch. Today's one involves trying to work out the written and spoken languages of different societies. There are something like 50 symbols in each language that you are given various clues to work out the meaning of. We are rrrrrrreally enjoying it. I like how the sentences sentence structure varies between each language.
Parenting fun today as a bedside clock apparently ran out of battery and restarted itself at 5:45am thinking it was midnight on 1/1/04 and played Auld Lang Syne. My bigger child came running through the house with the clock yelling aaaaah Mummy and I bolted out of bed away from smaller person but he woke up anyway. Bigger then didn't go back to sleep but the small person did and slept in lots and we're still going at 10:42pm. Might have gone to sleep a bit earlier but he kept complaining that the drink of warm milk I made him was "too warm hot" and making a very unimpressed face at me (a face of betrayal) and I finally had some and it was soooooo sour omg so we had to go find some nicer things to wash the taste away.
Got a $4 toy from Temu that I'm so glad I didn't pass by. It's a wooden block with different lights mounted in it, each light controlled by a different switch off some kind. Basically a busy board. Small child has been carrying it around all day and making up what the lights mean and teaching us how it works etc.
Been wondering how to do a post to collect together all the gifts given/received at Xmas that have proven to be winners over the past week, and for what ages. To be, like, a repository of ideas for people to use for gift ideas. For us, it's a remote control car that has dual joysticks, one for left wheels other for right, and that flips over and happily continues the other way up, and recharges in just over an hour. It's been charged at least ten times so far, having been run through courses that loop the house, going out the front door and in the back. Loads of run making ramps and jumps and arrows.
Omg it's 11:07pm and the 4 year old is still going.
Aaah yes those fluid Uno rules, I feel ya Emily! Beckham was so good, much better than I expected. We are hooked on The Diplomat on Netflix at the moment, although I’m still watching trashy Christmas rom coms whenever I get the remotes to myself. Will dive into some of the rabbit holes you shared this week. Happy new year to you and the fam.
I love Cecilia from Svalbard too! I find her life fascinating but I couldn't think of anything worse than living in complete darkness for 3 months...I get depressed enough with our sh!tty winters...
We got a new game Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza. It might not be a new game for everyone else, but we got it from Santa (ie KMart) it's so much fun! It is loud, fast and involves slapping your hands down, so can cause injury! And there's narwhals!
My favourite added Uno rule is rolling Uno. As soon as someone plays their last card, they draw 7 and the game continues. Everyone else keeps their hands. It takes the competition right out of it, and a game can last all day
My cousin lives in Oslo now but she used to live on Svalbard! She's an ER doctor. Whenever she left the town (Longyearbyen) to go hiking or fishing, she would have to carry a big gun around with her in case she saw a polar bear! It would be an amazing place to live but very hard in the winter.

This is what I want to know!!

Oh I have thought about taking the kids to Wonka! Is it a musical?

^^ what they said. And if you listen closely enough you can hear some of the older songs in the music too
Aaaah this is exactly what I needed to get me through the gooch of the year. Thank you Emily!
Yay! Thank you Netta! I'm so glad you like it!
We are on the same side of tiktok 👏
😂🙏
Omg now I'm a "homeowner" I could totally dig a tunnel.. 👀😅
Haha do it 😂

Is Svalbard the place with no old people?

The game was Chants of Sennaar. Now finished. Really really liked it!

OMG thank you so much for introducing me to Neil the seal. I am obsessed with him.

I just read ‘The Man’ again and then googled him and found this on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/AussieTikTokSnark/comments/12vncsy/jake_maddock/. Gross.
