Thank you for your mahi Emily. As a result, I’ve bought a bumper sticker, signed up to be a prisoner penpal, sent the interview to my closest MPs who’ll listen (Ingrid Leary, Rachel Brooking), as our Local MP is so weak it’s not funny (Joseph Mooney), signed the Consumer petition (I recently resubscribed to support them as I love the mahi they’re doing as well), forwarded the call to volunteer for the hospital street appeal to my two daughters who are at uni in Pōneke, liked the FB campaign I did not sign up for Dis. All because you’ve taken the time to curate this information. Ngā mihi nui 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
That Howard Zinn quote? Thank you! This is something I will think of when trying to explain to some of my whanau why I don't buy a particular brand of hummus or why I bought a loaf of bread for the homeless man begging or made a meal for a gym class buddy or give blood or volunteer or donate unwanted household stuff rather than FB Marketplace it. Their comment is always "one person doing this won't make a difference" and I've tried to say "but if a lot of individuals all do it then it will make a difference". Now I will still tell them that, but will keep this quote close.
Just want to shout out to the Dunedin locals (and Otago/Southland people who can travel), the Dunedin City Council have organised a march this Saturday, 28th Sept to protest the idea of any further cuts being made to the new hospital, under the They Save, We Pay slogan. Meet on Great King St outside the Dent School 12pm, March moving up Frederick St, and then along George St to the Octagon.
I donate plasma every few weeks in Pōneke so if anyone is apprehensive about going for the first time I’d be happy to go along as a buddy and support. The staff there are all lovely and you get really good snacks after (during if you’re giving plasma).
It does seem so bleak sometimes particularly when we watch the horrors of the dreadful crimes being committed in Palestine & now Lebanon. I read thought we would have given up on murdering each other by now but hey! Seems we haven’t really grown up yet. Anyway it’s so true that the more we can do the good, the better we feel & hopefully make some difference. And every time I go to a ceasefire rally & hear the stories of every day resistance & bravery, I know that behind darkness there can be a light! Thanks for your words. Go kindly everyone!

Arohanui it really resonates with me too! ❤️
It’s affirming to do little things that add up to something much bigger, & it’s made my day brighter. Thank you Emily ❤️
