This was so beautiful to read. We have so much to learn from Maoridom. Why people are intimidated by this, I will never understand.

I'm late to it in life, Hannah, and I totally agree with you.

Thankyou Emily, and Chris. This very quickly brought tears - perhaps because we yearn for the healing deep connection and spirituality that is so poignantly expressed here. Nga mihi nui

Think you're right, Kath. We do yearn for connection and the spirituality that can come with it. Makes halves, whole.

Thank you so much for writing and sharing this. Māori culture has so much depth and power and generosity. . Our Pakeha media either sentimentalise or make death lurid but it’s so much deeper than that. May your mother now truly rest in peace and you and your family be able to remember her peacefully.

Thank you, Patricia. Hau and Maea certainly showed us the depth, power and generosity of the culture. I do wish that had happened a lot earlier in my life.

This was a painful and yet beautiful story of grief. Thank you for telling it.

A beautiful piece. The coroner process is painfully slow. Almost 5 years for a member of our family, in what would be considered a relatively straightforward case. Makes it very hard to have closure.

You're so right Lena. Have yet to experience any caring or understanding. The wait periods are cruel. The lesson from Hau and Maea around the spirituality of a loved one who has passed has certainly helped.

Glad that you've had that lesson and those connections ❤️

Thank you Talei. Hope you've found some peace. It's certainly not easy as they're always with us and the spiritual approach that I found through Hau and Maea worked wonders for us.

Thank you Chris. I have experienced a double whammy of grief just recently. Your story has been a great help.

Bless you and all your whanau, especially your mum who will surely be at peace now.

Warmest regards.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful story. May you find peace and your mother's soul rest in peace. Officialdom can be so uncaring at times. I don't care if they had 5000 cases it is not hard to speak to people nicely and show some compassion. Nga mihi nui
