I maybe didn’t explain it well enough! You don’t have to subscribe to anything! It will just be one of the posts I send out from here (probably every two weeks or so) and it will replace one of the other three posts I do each week. If you want to support my mahi you can get a paid subscription (and I would so appreciate it) but The Call will always be free for you and free to share ❤️

Hi Emily, your paragraph about Milli Hill has an error in it. Milli Hill isn't a midwife. She's a freelance journalist who campaigned on positive birth experiences and shares a lot of your beliefs. I recommend reading her side of the story and looking into the accuracy of some of the accusations of hate speech. I'm just not convinced her punishment fits her crime.

I also owned her positive birth book. I can’t believe she’s not a midwife! I felt sure she was. Even less reason for her to speak at the conference given her new career turn.

Appreciate the reply. I was surprised she wasn't a midwife as well after reading her books. I'm glad we disagree. It tells me I'm being open minded about what I read and I believe disagreement is fundamental to preserving intellect and freedom.

Thanks so much Hannah, I’ll correct that now. I’ve read all of her writing on gendered language and trans people. I wanted to make sure I knew exactly what she had said before I shared anything. I’m really comfortable with saying that her attending the conference is harmful to LGBTQIA+ midwives and communities and she shouldn’t be attending. I stand with queer and trans midwives and the queer and trans community of birthing people. Thanks, Em ❤️

This is wonderful. Can I add this as an option for Afghanistan? Shared on Azadeh Ghafari's (@the.wellness.therapist) Instagram

Thank you so much, Emily, what a great idea. I just finally sat down and wrote a submission on the Conversion Practices bill. As a parent and a queer person, it got a little personal. I knew it would, which is why it took me a while to do it. The templates you linked to really helped! I used them as just jumping off point, really.

Fantastic, thank you for this! Many (but not all) things I was aware of yet wasn't sure the best way to help. Sometimes I feel unsure about signing petitions too without trusted endorsement (given I think anyone can create a petition and I don't always have the capacity to properly look into everything) so this is brilliant! Thanks Emily ❤️

A friend sent me the quote, "There is no CouRAGE without rage". Actioning feelings is something I'm working on and this type of action/solution-focused thinking really helps me. The kids and I have been reading lots of feeling ID books during lockdown. Turns out I'm the emotionally illiterate one. The positive action of deep intense emotion is new to me. So we are learning together. Thanks a million.
