Thank you for drawing attention to the recent report on sole parents. I am raising my son alone and one of the most difficult and heartbreaking experiences I've had is when my son's friend's parents find out I'm a sole parent and stop inviting my son to their houses, and to birthday parties, etc. It is really difficult for my son to understand. I also find it really upsetting when I'm excluded from parents' get togethers and social occasions. Being a sole parent is an incredibly lonely experience. I don't have a partner either so I don't have anyone who I can confide in. If anyone is reading this and knows a sole parent, please talk to them, involve them and ensure they feel included.
Thank you for this Emily! I work for Te Hā o-hine-ahu-one in Palmerston North and we have a ton of free resources including pregnancy tests, condoms and menstrual products. We also offer low/no cost counselling, cervical smear, mirimiri and massage. We are all about access to resources so come and get what you need! ❤️
We are also looking to start a private cervical smear clinic for our trans men. We understand there can be some challenges surrounding receiving this type of care and we want you to be healthy and feel safe ❤️
Oh of course! So you can call or text on 0278540918 or find us on social media at @pnwomenshealth
There is no expectation that you give is any time or reason for your needs, you can come in and give us the bro nod and grab and go if you want. We also can connect you to other community agencies and offer support/advocacy.
Thanks Emily for sharing these great suggestions for donations. I'll definitely consider some one-off donations. As a beneficiary I'm so grateful to receive financial support. I meet my need/value of contributing (giving back) via volunteering two days a week for a St John's op-shop and donating monthly to Amnesty International and MSF/Doctors without borders.
That is such a huge help there’s such a desperate need for volunteers in absolutely every sector! My local op shop is closed right now because they have no volunteers. You’re so wonderful to give your time x
Oh that's sad! It certainly takes a lot of volunteers to keep a shop running. We have 70 for ours. Volunteering has been so beneficial for me. It's given me purpose, belonging and meaning when I didn't have any after mental illness and epilepsy stopped me from being a midwife.
Hey friends here’s the givealittle for the grieving whānau of the child who died in the Abbey Caves tragedy https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/koha-to-support-the-whanau-boy-lost?

Thank you for sharing Anna - it breaks my heart that you’ve been treated that way. ❤️
I feel for you Anna. Stupid people. My Mum lost friends as a sole parent FOUR decades ago because she might've seduced their husbands...
Truly the women who say shit like “don’t steal my husband” have the fugliest rotten husbands 😂
