Since I’ve had an email about the use of the word coward for Hipkins - I want to be clear that I stand by the word 100% even if people unsubscribe. I will never support politicians who know what is right but refuse to do what is right. People are turning away from Labour as we have seen in the polls because Labour are paralysed by the fear of not being re-elected. New Zealanders support a wealth tax - in the latest poll asking “would you support the government in introducing a wealth tax” a clear majority of 53% said yes. Just 34.7% said no. Even if New Zealanders didn’t support a wealth tax (which they do) the job of a prime minister is not to pander to the rich in the hopes of reelection. His job is to lead, not to make bad decisions for the country only based on what he thinks might get him re-elected. He isn’t just a coward, he is the worst kind of politician, someone who knows what is right but refuses to do it. Labour were voted in on transformational change but refuse to even try to deliver that. I don’t think he’s a fool, I think he’s worse than a fool. Labour are National-lite.

Completely agree. Absolute cowardice, another betrayal. Labour needs to ditch its name - I reckon Capital is more appropriate. If they lose the election it won't be because they weren't nice enough to the top 2%. I hope the Greens are staunch in any coalition negotiations

Thank you so much for putting this together and making it so easy for people to take action. All of the vaccinations for my whole whānau, always 💪🏻 I’m fucking furious at Labour for being so spineless and refusing to even consider wealth or capital gains taxes. Fuck them for choosing to keep people in poverty and not taking a step that would cost a small few and would benefit most people in Aotearoa. I’m dreading a National/Act government and what it means for NZ, especially vulnerable people.

It’s extremely grim. I just feel so disappointed even though I haven’t had faith in Labour for years. Even for them this is poor form.

I work for the Salvation Army. I manage the recurring giving program, True Heroes, the funding of which goes towards the wraparound care services that support our precious vulnerable people. Food parcels, Transitional Housing, Financial Mentoring and Positive Lifestyle Programs. We gave more and more people coming to us, and fewer supporters, as the cost of living crisis bites hard. It breaks my heart thinking of our elderly especially, sitting in cold homes, and kids living in damp houses, and motels. Sorry, I know this sounds, and is I guess, an ad, but I’ve worked for the TSA for 3 years and the work we do is what keeps utter despair at bay! Xxxxxxx

Re the flu vaccine - it’s a really good match to the strains around this year! My partner has been horrifically unwell since Saturday with the flu, but myself and my 3 year old are still symptom free (we are vaccinated, he was not). Also, if you do get the flu, Tamiflu is available from pharmacies (pharmacist only) but has to be started within 48 hours of symptom onset (and costs $75 😵)

The digital launch of Care Not Cages is well worth spending an hour on - I was able to view it live and found it both clear and powerful!
