I don’t feel like I pay for your writing, I pay for you, and people like you, to still exist in the world. You’ve been pushed far to the side and we won’t realise how much we needed you until you’re all gone. So I’m happy to support a tiny corner of that ❤️
Thank you for your writing Emily, it is so thoughtful and funny.
I'm so impressed by people that stick with journalism (except the goobers), it's such a hard job. I think only 3-4 of our class of 20 from 2008 are still doing it. It's not hard to see why; I moved to comms cos it's usually 9-5, comes with has far less abuse, and pays four times what my first journalism gig did. And it's easier.
PS You are a saint for replying to non-subscribers. I'd be sending them links to Sonic the Hedgehog fan art pages, or photos of botched eyeball surgeries
Thank you, I just realised I wasn’t a paid subscriber so I just fixed that. My husband and I are raising our kids with no family here, and your writing has made me feel so much less alone. Thank you so much for what you do.
Thank you so so much. I’m so glad that you feel that way. I’ve always hoped my writing on parenting might help with those lonely feelings we all have sometimes ❤️❤️
Timely reminder that my credit card has just expired and I now have to find out how to update details so you keep getting my sub! Eek! I’m going to go puzzle it out now agh
I just discovered that Apple Pay has an arrangement with the bank so it just gets the new card details automatically! I don’t know if I’m shocked or happy about this! Anyhow I think that means you just keep getting paid so... yay 😅
How the fuck did this end up in my Spam folder instead of my inbox? Shit mail server, your algorithm must be shit because it's one of the few emails I ALWAYS open even if I don't physically read it!
Any who. My 2c, perhaps you need to not reply to emails? If you want more people to pay, isn't the ability to comment and converse with you the point of the subscription? Emailing you, and you responding, circumvents that need to subscribe.
Ooh I love this piece. It’s such an honour to help you out even just a little, as I’ve seen how much you’ve just given and given endlessly over the years 💛
This is a powerful piece. Yours is the ONLY blog I take the time to read, every single one. You're so funny and real and engaging. I laugh and cry with you, I genuinely spend parts of my day thinking how we can fund your son to get his continuous monitor, but realise it's not just your son but so many people's kids. I have donated to nearly all the charities you have promoted too. So why the F*** have I only been paying you $7 per month when I pay much more for the Guardian that I flick through a few times???? Have fixed that now. You deserve much more.
PS... how come the most I can pay is $100 per year? That's only a $1.33 increase each month. Am I missing something here? Why can't I put my own amount in? :-)

Please do keep writing (one of your subscribing and very infrequent commenters who adores what you do).
Thank you Lou!
"But I do wonder if writing by women always needs to have a home outside of social media in order to survive."
Oof. This sentence stuck out to me. Thank you for continuing to share your thoughts and wisdom. It helps more than you could know.
❤️ thank you Jess
Love being a subscriber!

I agree, please don't respond to the emails, it's very kind of you but you don't owe people your time.
