Oh Emily, such beautiful words, actions, observations. Sitting here shedding a quiet tear at work. Found out last week we have to send our beautiful dog to sleep this Friday, we kind of saw it coming but 'kind of' thoughts vs reality ain't no small thing . Absolutely dreading having to tell our somewhat fragile teen, but as she has just started volunteering at a dog shelter I now feel more confident that this will be a help and not an added pain for her about-to-be broken heart. So much ❤️ to Ronnie and you all, may he have an endless supply of dogs to meet and greet! X
I have a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and a Hungarian Vizsla if he would like to meet either of them. Also if you're comfortable, I could share this post on my dog club's Facebook / Instagram - I'm pretty sure we have at least one Afghan Hound member :)
Oh please do! And he would looove to meet them! Lyall Bay beach is our usual go to or the dog park behind the zoo for dog spotting. Sometimes animates or Bunnings too and Parrot Dog ❤️❤️
I said to a school mum (away from school) just this weekend how "bad" it is when you recognise the dog before the person. But it's not really, is it? Not if you are drawn in by animal interaction over human
Thanks Emily - I love this about community healing with dogs - and so happy to hear your boy's grief is easing. I hope yours will slowly become manageable too. The right animals make everything whole
It is, so much - but you just have to trust that a new pet is healing and you'll all have a long, lovely time together. Even though you know some time you'll have to go through it again but you will know more about how to cope each time xx
oh my heart! <3
xx
❤️❤️❤️
O, Emily! I never cry over substacks.
You are such a lovely writer <3
Thank you 😭
A Christmas story of hope for all of us in these times. Thankyou to you and your family for this. love to them all.
❤️❤️

Has Ronnie seen The Dogist? Wholesome dog content on Insta. He could be Wellington's Dogist!
We just got sent it today! He was jealous of the guy meeting a chow lol
Bless! This is just magical!!
Would Ronnie like pics of dogs from other places or prefers to capture the ones he has met personally? I’m happy to send him a picture ❤️
He likes to meet them personally! It’s like dog bingo. ❤️
All the feels. There are few things as soothing for the soul as fur baby love. 💕🐕
I know someone with a Tibetan mastiff. If that's on the list. They do live in taihape though
Oh he would love to meet one! Any dog really but he does get very chuffed when it’s a “rare” one.
This is so so lovely 🥰 thank you for sharing Emily. Your writing is amazing as usual, and I am so happy for Ronnie
Thank you ❤️

My husband and I were having a cry on Saturday just like wow the depth of grief is so intense?!
