I love this. Still wallowing currently in the fact that people voted for this - this isn’t what I want my daughter to grow up with. But this gives me hope that she will grow learning to fight for what she does believe.

Hope is everything! You must be so proud of your kid & his friends! That’s giving me hope after working in human rights for so many frustrating years!

Thank you for that reminder. Listening to Luxons comments re the protests today did depress me. He just does not get it. He seemed indignant- how dare they because he is apparently going to be better for Māori than the Labour government in the last six years. Better as defined by him of course. I have been watching Al Jazeera during the am hours when I can't sleep. It is difficult to be hopeful in the face of the terrible carnage that is happening in Gaza. It is also difficult to know that the rest of the world have been powerless to stop this. Your son and his friends sound lovely, and not cynical at all.

Every time you post stories about your kids it makes me so emotional. They are the most beautiful children thanks to you and your husband’s parenting. It makes me so hopeful for our future, and makes me aspire to raise my babies like this.

Sending lots of love to you guys as you battle covid.

The children are watching… so true. And a bit frightening, but I try to channel that into hope. How cool that we are raising upstanders. As usual, a lovely piece by you Emily! Thinking of you and your whānau while you navigate Covid/Not Covid But Just As Shit

Without hope we have nothing.

We must always leave room in our hearts for hope.

Thank you, Emily. This - as well as the protest itself - was the message of hope I needed this week. We couldn't join in today. Hopefully we can make the next one. My boy is 11 and very keen on protests right now.

Gah! What special kids and so beautifully put. I truly believe in the power of these younger generations and they really inspire me. I have a niece and nephews and some friends kids who, like Eddie and his friends, were engaged at his age. They are now 17-20 and they have held onto that care, passion and action.

Yes absolutely! Lately I've been hopeful from seeing intelligent snarky comments left by wāhine toa on social media to the latest tomfoolery out of this government. There are many caring intelligent people out there and that is cause for hope!

We've got Covid in our house too. 7 year old just tested positive 😢
