That profile of Jeremy Strong is amazing and also withering. It reminded me of the feeling I get watching Tom Hiddleston (who I generally really like) talking about acting. Example 1: The Graham Norton episode where Tom *performs* both parts in a scene between Robert De Niro and Al Pacino while De Niro is actually sitting on the sofa next to him… https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MFhhPDcPNvI
Example 2: Anything from the behind the scenes of Loki.
On another note - I’m so sorry to hear that Diabetes Camp is canceled. I remember that gut wrenching feeling as a kid of looking forward to something so much and then it being totally out of your control when it’s taken away.
Wow that Hiddleston video is so awkward! 😂 I must look up Ryan Kwanten. I always loves him in True Blood. I was so fascinated that he didn’t see succession as a comedy. But watching it after reading that profile - you get it. Kendall is so broken in season 3. I mean maybe he always was but...
And thank you, he was just so looking forward to it. I feel for him so much.
Still thinking about that profile… there is something else I remember reading about Ryan Kwanten playing Sookie’s brother Jason in True Blood - with characters that play the fool, it’s very tempting for the actor to play the role with a little bit of a wink and a nod… just to let the audience know that they’re not actually dumb and that they’re in on the joke. It destroys the illusion. It’s much harder to just play the role straight, without any self consciousness, but the end result is much better and funnier.
Currently watching intentionally: I seem to be re watching Wes Anderson movies lately, I think I am finding the '90s nostalgia comforting. So many actors who I actually know and love. So much escapism in these movies, everything is just a little larger than life.
Currently watching largely against my will: My kid has discovered Home Alone and is insisting on watching all the movies in order. I had no idea there were so many of them. We are currently on number four.
My favourite quote from succession series 1 is when old man Roy is explaining business to someone… “you make more money than you spend, you get to be king cunt”
I’m not sure whether to be proud or embarrassed that I currently have three books on the go: 1. Think Again by Adam Grant 2. The Cult of Trump by Steven Hassan, and 3. Clarity & Connection by yung pueblo.
And I don’t actually remember if we even did school photos this year… BUT, I did definitely spend too much on those *lovely* art calendars that come home as a fundraiser every year… 😬
Omg yes the price of school photos!?! We're 5 years into parenting and so far I haven't purchased a single one. One year our eldest was stoked we "purchased" the sample photo 🤣 This year we happened to be out of town on her first actual school photo day. And daycare photo day was scheduled for what ended up being in lockdown. I feel like there's only so long we can put off ever buying them though, perhaps that's when we suggest them to the grandparents to purchase 🤣
Also gutted that The Morning Show turns crap - I’m currently enjoying season 1. Otherwise re-watching Six Feet Under, which holds up and is still a fav. Reading Jerningham (historical fiction about Wellington’s early colonial settlers) and recently finished Alison Jones’ excellent This Pākehā Life.
I love a good Christmas rom-com - this year I've enjoyed The Holidate (set over a whole year, which is unusual for a Christmas movie) and Love Hard - which has a geeky asian guy as the lead (and a hot asian guy as the second love interest).

The price of school photos????? Guh, so bloody much. Like, you guys are cute, but shit, really???
It’s so annoying because I’d love it if they all had their school photo for every year but it’s just so much!

Wait, when did Seth Rogen get to be ok-looking?
I feel like he gets better with age right?

Shocking. But delicious.
So good eh. I hate it and love it.

We haven’t bought any yet either so this makes me feel better 😂
