Magnolia! If you've never seen it you should. Best film that decade. Even Tom Cruise is good in it. Probably because he plays one of those utter douchey "player" instructors. "Make your best friend into your sperm receptacle" was a particularly memorable line. SO GOOD. Also Being John Malkovic was weird and hilarious.

I got into the car this morning and my son's dad was playing his fave Christmas song playlist, so you're not alone.

I ok'ish thanks for asking Emily although I think I'm turning into a hermit, I hate the thought of having to leave home now as I've gotten so used to it. Just the thought of getting ready aka looking a bit less shit......I just can't be arsed AND wearing a bra, boo! I've forced myself to ask some friends over for a BBQ tomorrow, I usually spaz out trying to clean up & make everything perfect because of this (which is too hard) I don't often ask people over. So I'm trying to be more relaxed around this as I quite like having my buddies around & should do it more. I haven't been around anyone but my family for weeks even after the level drop. I suppose next week I'll try to be less hermity & get into some kind of routine.

Ok but the only correct answer to 1999 is Drop Dead Gorgeous and I’m literally rewatching it tonight. “Jesus Loves Winners” - Becky Ann Leaman

And also watching Lil Nas X’s videos have been helping with lockdown week 5-infinity 🥵🥵🥵

Your emails are lifesavers Emily, you’re appreciated more than you know 🥰

I’m ashamed to say I have listened to nothing apart from Years & Years It’s a Sin cover since I first heard it the day it came out. At one stage it was playing in my head without my headphones on. It’s great to do a dance workout to (on repeat). I must have listened to it hundreds of times

Yes, it is much too early to put up your Christmas tree and I'm sorry Emily, but if you do, we can't be friends anymore. We all have our limits!

Best films of 99 have to be the Green Mile (though I'll probably never watch it again because I found it really upsetting) and 10 things I hate about you-which I will watch over and over.

Been up all night with the tiny baby and the snoring husband (and then of course the dogs want to go out to pee at 3am!), Loving lying in bed now reading your work knowing very soon I'm going to pass children and animals over to my (about to be rudely woken) spouse and I'm going back to sleep! Oh I love the weekends for this!

Get it up! Get it up! Anyway, it should be up from mid winter / Covid whatever! Movie 1999 - The Insider was awesome, Crowe was too. After work Friday night I went to rural Dannevirke for sleepover with son's whānau - youngest moko up there turned 6 last week. Home last night so I get sleep in today before work tomorrow and woke time alarm normally rings on Mondays (5:45). On second consecutive dose of steroids for crappy lungs, might explain this!! And no sympathy sought - others have way more sleep challenges I know... Love and hugs and we're happy to read joyful or despondent, hope you know that. You're here for us - we're here for you 💕💕

I hardly saw any movies in 1999 because it was my first year at uni. I think only one in theatre - Star Wars The Phantom Menace, unfortunately. Saw some later on video. Fave would have to the The Matrix. I distinctly remember my friend complaining to us at the cafeteria breakfast table about her boyfriend dragging her to it and how bad it was. But I loved it - first action movie I remember actually enjoying.

I loved the Its A Sin cover - beautiful! - thanks for sharing. OK so related question - I have watched the 1st couple episodes of the tv show Its A Sin and - am I imagining things? Is the singer in that video the lead actor in the show? Someone fill me in? btw, I liked the show but just couldn't handle the heavy content - I'll probably get back to it when I'm ready to. Also how dare they kill off NPH in the first episode?!

I’m tired because neither of my kids seem to want to sleep through the night any more (well the baby hasn’t managed that at all yet) but looking forward to celebrating a bunch of one year olds tomorrow.

I think I’m going to get some ice cream & watch the first episode of season 5 of Kim’s Convenience or Agents of Shield depending on whether partner is going to watch with me.

So many good movies that year!

Actually loving the song covers in the Trolls Movies which the 3 year old is kindly letting us choose between on car ride (“any song so long as it’s Trolls”)

Thanks for writing this, and all the mahi you put out into the world. Xx
