Emily, I hope you are back to your normal self soon, and can take some enjoyment in the downtime (and the fact that you can get KFC).
Vee, that was hilarious as I too am waiting on impulse buys from Australia, when will they fucking get here? And Chris Parker is a national treasure, on the list right behind Emily.
That sounds like really shit times Emily 😢 sad to hear but glad you and your support are all over it! Sending love 💕
Great read, thanks Vee. I’m lucky here to be in level 2. During lockdown we impulse bought a giant trampoline. It’s ridiculously humongous but has been a lot of fun. Turns out trampolines are essential items 🤷♀️
🤣 Hard relate to being an ingredients house, over purchasing snacks, and lockdown-ordering gin with fancy tonic mixers and clothes from Aus that still haven’t arrived 😬
Emily, lots of love. Hope you’re getting lots of hugs, good coffee and bubble baths ❤️
Emily, I'm sorry you're feeling so shit, and I hope you're back to feeling better soon. <3
Vee, that was hilarious. We spend all our extra money from not going anywhere on baking supplies and made use of our gazillion lemons (well, some of them...). I made some money from an editing job and immediately spent it on my favourite book series, sent to me by the author, from Australia but the package has cleared NZ customs already!! I also bought a tarot deck I fell in love with, via an indie tarot shop in the Netherlands (the deck is made by an artist in the USA). I put stuff in my cart from AliExpress but they take 2 years to send stuff so I didn't buy it.
Hope you feel much better soon. It must be very hard to stay on top of Depression with so much sleep deprivation. You are a heroine! Every day. And i love this cheering column by your friend. Even though i am retired, i still feel blobby in lockdown and struggle with structure.
Vee - that was perfection. The section on popcorn and watching Zelda? SAME. To the point where I read it my husband and he turned to me and said “wait, did YOU WRITE THIS?” Hahaha, we got hooked on that popcorn in last lockdown. Snacks are lockdown essentials for sure, especially when watching Link do his thing.
Em - Depression sucks balls. Not in a good way. Sorry you’re going through it. We’re here if/when you need us xx
Ka piki te ora Emily ❤️ and thank you for gifting us Vee!I've been pretty broke over lockdown which was pants but as soon as anything appeared in my account it was promptly spent on FB pester-ads prompted purchases; a pair of marimekko x addidas running shorts and an 'Inner Game Journal' so far; and to balance out the sporting-coping mechanism, caramel popcorn +++ happy sighx
Thanks Vee, THAT sparked joy✨ Emily, love your work and will happily wait indefinitely for you to recover, so don’t let this thing you love become a burden, aye! I reckon coming out of lockdown is as stressful as going in, just different. I’m in Akl, and the thought of coming out of lockdown stresses me and gives me a busy head, even though I definitely want to get some normality back. It’s just the jarring shift in pace I can’t stand.
This newsletter definitely sparked joy for me, I'm glad I'm not the only one buying shit and pretending to buy shit online to get through the lockdown. Still waiting for most of it to arrive! I bought lots of pens and paints and craft stuff for my kids once we were in level 3, spent ages making long and complicated and attemptedly-educational treasure hunts for them, spent 5 mins doing the actual hunts with them and 20 mins drinking gin while the treasures/pens/paints sparked joy for the kids then they started fighting again and I poured another gin and tidied up/mediated the fighting.
Great job Vee!! Thank you to you and to Emily for asking you to do this. I know those closest will be taking care of her - please pass on our love ❤️ We will not unsubscribe!! Now my lockdown lunacy: 3 x 1000 piece jigsaws (that makes 4 waiting to be opened, a new addiction courtesy of lockdown and widowhood tho that's been 2 years); postie baby stuff for new moko who was born as we went to level 2 phew; Feelings emotions dictionary from the Arohas Way peeps for other moko; grill pan from briscoes that works on all stovetops and in oven; hoodie that fits (M and I'm a 22) from Taking Shape sale and to encourage you about Aussie purchases: Trinny London stack - 6 days from ordering!! At 65 I'm discovering cream eyeshadow and blush and omg I love it!! But my Dr Bugs adult popcorn has taken ages, biggest holdup seems to be stuff sourced from Christchurch where things sit at the depot for a week waiting to leave. So weird with Auckland stuff arriving in 2 - 3 days...Good luck with your online adventures!!
Emily- thanks for sharing. You always make me laugh out loud with your column and I LOVE reading it. Great work Vee stepping in - love your work too; it’s a o important we all know we can take a break when and if we need to!
Hope you feel better soon Emily. May you be wrapped in aroha and comfort.
Vee, love your work! Googled the green terry, is beautiful, bougie or not. Unashamedly want but won’t coz it’s sold out , if you don’t want yours I’ll have it. Kidding. interested to see that terry is even a thing. Totally out of touch except for glimpses afforded through my kids (and sub stacks).

I hope you feel better soon💕 I found my self at Liquorking at 9am last week for Whiskey for my husband and wine for myself. Obviously I have no shame…

Sending love Emily, don't worry about posting , we will still be here as big fans when you feel ok. Xx
This made me chuckle out loud! Thank you. Totally agree that Chris Parker is a national treasure. #grrateful

P.S. If you haven’t watched Tom Cardy’s cover of Hall & Oates You Make My Dreams, it’s a must-see. One of my favourites memes of all time.
Of. All. Time.
